UTM's undergraduate regulations, in the 16th-edition faculty text published on the undergraduate studies site, set out one relationship between marks, letters, and points in Table 5. A+ (90–100) and A (80–89) are both 4.00. A- is 3.67, B+ 3.33, B 3.00, B- 2.67, C+ 2.33, C 2.00, C- 1.67, D+ 1.33, D 1.00, D- 0.67, and E is 0.00. The D- row is the detail people miss when they copy a generic 4.0 scale that jumps from D at 1.00 to F at 0.
The same regulations say that, in general, D+ is the minimum passing grade, and that a faculty may set a higher pass mark for a course with Senate approval. A CGPA calculation does not decide whether you passed the course. It only weights the point you were given. If a studio or a core engineering course needs a C and you have a D+, the point 1.33 still enters the average, and the course may still be short of the pass the faculty set. Verify that pass mark with your faculty. The points in the table are the part this page relies on.
Worked numbers: an A+ of 3 credits is 12.00, a B of 3 credits is 9.00, and a D- of 2 credits is 1.34. The semester is 22.34 points over 8 credits, GPA 2.7925. The D- did not "cancel". It added two hours and almost no points. Replacing it later, if your faculty allows a repeat to substitute, means you delete the 1.34 and the 2 credits and type the new grade instead. Do not leave both rows in unless both attempts remain in the official average.
Credit hours at UTM include the usual 3-credit courses and shorter university courses. Use the hours on the registration, including a 1-credit laboratory if it has its own letter. A practical course that shares Table 5's points is typed the same way as a lecture course. The narrative descriptions in the regulations (outstanding, excellent, and so on) are not extra points.
Cumulative CGPA is the same division over every counted hour. A strong industrial-training semester with few credits will not repair a long run of 18-credit semesters. Put the old CGPA and the old total credits in the two previous-study fields rather than averaging semester GPAs by eye.
If you are comparing an offer from UM, stop and switch scales. UM's A- is 3.70, not 3.67, and UM has no D-. The UTM page will happily mis-score another university's letters if you leave the dropdown here.
Verify with your faculty. A+ and A are both 4.00. The regulations say a grade of D+ is generally the minimum pass, and a faculty may set a higher pass mark. Verify that part with your faculty. This scale includes D- at 0.67.

The shared formula does not change with the logo on the transcript. Multiply each grade point by the credit hours, add those products, and divide by the credit hours. What changes is the point you are allowed to multiply. If your letter is not in the table, do not borrow one from another university. Use the main CGPA calculator to switch scales, or the SPM page if you are still counting school grades.
