Monash publishes two different averages and students mix them up. The weighted average mark uses the actual mark. The Australian GPA uses 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0.3. The CGPA used in Malaysia uses another column: high distinction 4.00, distinction 3.67, credit 2.85, pass 2.15, near pass 1.70, fail 1.15, hurdle fail 1.15, and withdrawn fail 0.00. The official Malaysia CGPA page on monash.edu says the CGPA applies to students who started a Monash course on or after 1 January 2008, and that the division runs to three decimal places in their description of the steps. This calculator shows four, so you can round to three yourself: calculate to three decimal places means look at the fourth, not invent a new weighting.
Credit points are usually 6 for a standard unit. Three units, HD, D, and C, all at 6 points: 24.00 + 22.02 + 17.10 = 63.12. Divide by 18 credit points and the CGPA is 3.5067, which is 3.507 to three decimal places. Load the worked example to enter those three grades. A fail is not zero on this CGPA. N and NH are 1.15. A 6-point fail contributes 6.90, not 0, which is harsher than a blank and gentler than a zero. WN, withdrawn fail, is the row that contributes 0.
Near pass is a historical grade for units with a census date before 15 February 2010. Leave it unused unless your transcript actually says NP. Grades Monash lists as excluded — satisfied faculty requirements, not examinable, withdrawn incomplete, and the COVID-era exclusions — must not be typed in. They are out of the CGPA by rule. Adding them as pass or fail invents credit points.
A hurdle fail, NH, is awarded when the hurdle was missed and the mark would otherwise have been 45 or above. It still carries 1.15. Students sometimes want to substitute the mark average instead. That is the WAM conversation, and this page will not produce a WAM. If a scholarship asks for WAM, use the marks and the credit points in the way Monash defines WAM, not this CGPA.
The dropdown on this page uses Monash letters: HD, D, C, P, N, NH, WN. It will not show a B+. If you are holding a Taylor's or UM transcript, you are on the wrong scale. The credit-point field is the same "credits" box; type 6, not 3, unless the unit is actually 6 or whatever the handbook of the unit says. A 12-point unit is one row with 12, not two rows.
Previous CGPA works the same way. A 3.200 across 48 credit points is 153.60 weighted points. New units add to that total. Do not average a 3.200 with this semester's 3.507 as if both semesters had the same number of credit points.

The shared formula does not change with the logo on the transcript. Multiply each grade point by the credit hours, add those products, and divide by the credit hours. What changes is the point you are allowed to multiply. If your letter is not in the table, do not borrow one from another university. Use the main CGPA calculator to switch scales, or the SPM page if you are still counting school grades.
