An SPM result is a list of grades, one per subject. Since the grading change that replaced the old 1A to 9G numbers, those grades are A+, A, A-, B+, B, C+, C, D, E, and G. Students, parents, and application forms still ask two practical questions: how many A's, and what is the aggregate. The first question has a direct answer from the slip. The second one needs a rule, because the slip itself does not print a single aggregate.
Count an A as A+, A, or A-. Those three are the cemerlang group in Lembaga Peperiksaan's public result reports. Kepujian on those same reports is B+, B, C+, and C. D and E are reported with lulus. G is gagal. The calculator tallies each letter and those groups, so a slip with A+, A, A-, B+, and G is three A's, one kepujian, and one gagal. That part does not depend on any point value.
The worksheet aggregate is separate, and it is labelled as a worksheet on purpose. The points used here are A+ = 1, A = 1, A- = 2, B+ = 3, B = 4, C+ = 5, C = 6, D = 7, E = 8, and G = 9. A smaller total is better, which is the same direction as Gred Purata Nasional in LP's reports. It is not LP's published weight, and it is not a mark boundary. KPM has publicly rejected viral tables that pretend to be the official SPM cut scores. Do not type a school-test percentage into a guessed 90-to-100 band and call the result an SPM grade. Enter the grade you were actually given.
Using the five grades above, the points are 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 9 = 16. The average point is 16 divided by 5, which is 3.20. Load the worked example and you should see three A's and an aggregate of 16. If someone asks for the best four subjects, the G drops out and the remaining points are 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 7. The "best" selector sorts by this worksheet, lowest points first. Use it only when the form says best 5, best 6, or best 8. If the form names Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah, and Mathematics specifically, delete the other rows instead of trusting a mechanical best-of list.
Add a row per subject on the slip, including G. Leaving a G out makes the A-count look the same and makes the aggregate look better than the certificate. Repeat papers and papers you did not sit are not on the slip; do not invent rows for them. Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Inggeris are ordinary rows. Their credit does not get a special multiplier on this page, because SPM subjects are counted as one grade each unless an institution tells you otherwise.
People sometimes divide the aggregate by the number of subjects and call that a CGPA. It is not. A university CGPA multiplies a grade point by credit hours. SPM does not have credit hours. After you enrol, use the CGPA calculator and your faculty's scale. UiTM, UTM, UM, USM, UKM, UPM, Monash Malaysia, and Taylor's each have a page because their points are not identical. A scholarship that wants both SPM A's and a later CGPA wants both numbers, kept separate.
If a college asks for an aggregate and will not say which point map it uses, send the grade list rather than only the total. The total is easy to dispute. The letters on the slip are not. Keep the verify note visible if you print this page: the count of A's is read straight off the grades you typed, and the aggregate is a working sum for a conversation with the school.
