Meme maker

PNG download

Use a plain template drawn for this page, or upload a picture you have the right to use. Captions sit at the top and bottom.

A meme generator puts a caption on a picture and gives you a file you can post somewhere else. This meme maker does the caption part and stops. You get a top line, a bottom line, and a PNG download. The picture is either one of four templates drawn in the page, or a file you upload. The templates are original drawings: a dusk sky with hills, a two-panel block of colour with a circle, a plain card with a border, and a sun burst on a dark field. They are not stills from films, television, or comics. Those images are left out on purpose. A meme template that everyone recognises is usually somebody's copyright, and this site does not have a licence to ship it.

Upload replaces the template for that drawing. The picture is scaled to cover the square, so the edges may crop. Use a picture you took, a picture that is in the public domain, or a picture whose licence allows this use. The page cannot know which of those is true. It will draw whatever the browser can decode. If you do not have permission, do not upload it. The uppercase option turns Latin letters into capitals using an English casing rule, which is the heavy caption style people expect. Simplified Chinese is not "uppercased" by that rule in a useful way, so those characters stay as typed. Uncheck the box when you want the exact capitals you wrote. Each caption is limited to 80 characters. The type size starts large and steps down until the line fits, so a long sentence becomes smaller rather than running off the edge.

The canvas is 640 by 640 pixels. Captions are white with a dark outline, centred, one near the top and one near the bottom. That outline is what keeps the words readable on a bright photo and on a dark burst. Click make meme again after you edit the words. The page also draws once when it loads, so the sample words are already on the template and the download is available without a second guess about whether the button works. Changing the template and clicking again replaces the picture. The download is a PNG named meme.png. PNG keeps the sharp edges of the letters better than a heavy JPEG would. If you need a smaller file after that, the image compressor can make a JPEG from the download.

There is no sticker library, no font shop, and no account. Impact-like lettering comes from fonts the browser already has, with a plain sans as the fallback, so the page does not download a commercial font. The fancy text generator is the separate tool if you wanted Unicode letter shapes to paste into a chat rather than paint onto a picture. The PNG to JPG page is there if a site refused the PNG. Those are different jobs.

Nothing is uploaded. The image bytes stay in the tab. A private photo you used as the background is not sent to this site, and it is not kept after you close the page. Do not type a password, an identity number, or anyone else's private text into a caption you intend to publish. The tool will render it. Publishing it is your decision.

The directory is the rest of the list. If the drawing looks plain, that is the trade for not shipping copyrighted stills. Bring your own picture when you want a specific face or place, and keep the caption short enough to read at the size of a phone screen. Two short lines beat one paragraph. The outline around the letters is there so the words survive a busy photo, but it cannot rescue a caption that runs the full eighty characters at the smallest size.

Questions people actually ask

Are the templates famous meme images?

No. They are simple drawings made for this page: dusk hills, two colour panels, a bordered card, and a sun burst. Famous stills from films and comics are not bundled, because those pictures are someone else's copyright.

Can I use my own picture?

Yes. The file replaces the template. You need the right to use that picture. The page does not check ownership and does not grant a licence.

What does the uppercase box do?

When it is on, Latin letters are uppercased with an English locale, which is the usual meme caption look. Chinese characters are left as you typed them. Turn the box off to keep the capitalisation you typed.

How long can the caption be?

Each line allows 80 characters. A longer line is refused rather than cut in the middle of a word without telling you. The type shrinks so the line fits the width, down to a small minimum.

Is the meme uploaded?

No. The canvas is drawn in the tab and the PNG download is that canvas. Refreshing loses it. There is no gallery.
